I love lifting weights, a good burger, and drinking Weller Full Proof (my favorite whiskey).
I help people shrink their mid-section, build lean muscle, and have round-the-clock energy. All without giving up their favorite pours.
I was a very overweight teen and embarrassed by my body. I had zero confidence and found basic social interactions to be a struggle.
My belly stuck out over my belt, I was out of breath doing basic things, and I didn't like what I saw in the mirror.
It made for a pretty tough time growing up.
As a kid in rural England, there were no resources or programs to help kids get in shape. I had a wonderful and loving family but no one had any knowledge of fitness or exercise.
But I knew something had to change. There was no way I was going to live the rest of my life keeping my head down and hoping people didn’t notice me.
So I did the only thing I could…
I started reading. Like a lot.
It started with every issue of men's health I could find. But I wanted more than just the surface-level information you get in magazines. So I dove into physique and strength training blogs.
I didn’t have a coach or mentor so everything was trial & error. I would read about a new training system or exercise, implement it into my own training, and either keep it or discard it.
You could say I had truly fallen down the working-out rabbit hole. But I knew there was more to learn, much more than internet articles would be able to teach me.
So I completed an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science in England and later a Masters degree in Exercise Physiology in Texas. I even published my Masters thesis on the effect of hangover of exercise performance.
At this point I had all the theoretical knowledge in the world but no real world experience. But I got lucky…
An internship with one of the biggest gym companies in the USA fell into my lap. I grabbed it with both hands.
Fast forward to 2020 (and a few thousand personal training sessions later) and all the gyms temporarily closed their doors as mandated shutdowns took over.
I was furloughed and had nothing to do.
So like many other people at the time, I started day drinking!
And that’s where my love of whiskey began. I loved the history, the nuance in the whiskey making process, and the unique flavor profiles across that come from different distilleries.
But it wasn’t until I was sitting on a patio on a Wednesday afternoon that inspiration struck.
I was meeting a group of guys for the first time on a neighbors patio. We were all sitting socially distanced on lawn chairs and just shooting the breeze.
One of them asked me what I did for a living…
When I informed him I was a weight loss coach he looked both confused and curious.
“But you’re drinking whiskey…”
It was at that moment I knew I was about to blow his mind.
I shared some of the strategies I use to balance drinking whiskey with staying in shape.
It was the look of amazement on his face that did it for me.
The seed for Whiskey Weight Loss was planted.
One of the other guys in the group told me a story I had heard hundreds of times before.
It went like this:
I was fat and unhappy…
So I started to eat clean and I gave up drinking…
Then I lost a bunch of weight…
But then I got complacent. And the diet sucked so I slipped back into old habits…
And I re-gained all the weight and then some…
The problem with traditional dieting is that it’s neither fun or sustainable. And no one wants to diet for the rest of their lives.
But what if your “diet” included the things you enjoyed (like whiskey). Then it’s not really a diet at all, but a healthy lifestyle change that you are happy to sustain for the rest of time.
That’s the premise that Whiskey Weight Loss is based on.
Instead of doing the "all or nothing" approach or "everything in moderation" we believe in Strategic balance.
That means implementing powerful weight loss strategies while including enough of the fun stuff to enjoy the process.
